Statement from El Paso Water John Balliew

President and CEO John Balliew speaks to the safety and reliability of El Paso tap water

EL PASO
– El Paso is a resilient city, with the inherent disposition to help, lift up and overcome. As the concern grows about Coronavirus (COVID-19), I’m troubled about the emergence of people who are trying to profit from the fears of many. We are seeing many comments on social media implying that El Paso Water is unsafe to drink, and encouraging people to stockpile bottled water or purchase a filter.

As President and CEO of El Paso Water, a chemical engineer and a father of 3, let me reassure all El Pasoans that our water is clean and safe to drink. All EPWater employees have a vested interest in making sure our region’s water is of the highest-quality because we are customers too.

You can count on our services. EPWater has a plan to keep critical facilities staffed and operational 24/7/365. We place the highest value on safe drinking water. Our employees work around the clock, treating and monitoring water to ensure it is safe, reliable and clean – all so you can trust your tap.

We actively monitor water quality and perform daily tests at our modern, accredited, International Water Quality Laboratory to make sure we go beyond strict standards in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. Highly-trained specialists collect 45,000 samples from water treatment plants and perform 370,000 tests annually. All tests are shared with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, which provides regulatory oversight.

You may hear reports from other organizations that have ulterior motives, which include selling filtration products, and I want you to remember this: EPWater will continue to provide healthy, safe, reliable water from the tap.
