Lane Restrictions at George Dieter and Montwood

EL PASO – El Paso Water will close a portion of George Dieter Drive at Montwood Drive starting Feb. 18 to replace a steel pipe with a larger plastic pipe. As the work progresses, lane restrictions will alternate to Montwood Drive where an additional steel pipe will be replaced with a larger plastic pipe.

“We have seen significant corrosion of metal water pipes at key intersections along George Dieter, and we are proactively replacing them to improve reliability and prevent water loss that could come from leaks or water main breaks,” said Alan Shubert, Vice President of Operations and Technical Services for El Paso Water. EPWater is replacing steel water mains with plastic mains to prevent the likelihood of corrosion.

Drivers should anticipate congestion and slowdowns near the construction. By using trenchless technology to replace the pipes, EPWater is able to reduce the amount of lane closures. Access to homes and businesses remain open, and water service will not be affected.

The lane restrictions are tentatively scheduled through the summer, pending any additional work.
