Charity of choice

Charity of Choice

El Paso Water employees each year choose one charity aand concentrate on making a big difference for that non-profit organization.

Employees host fundraising events on personal time and give of their time, money and talent to show their generosity and spirit of service.

Since 2009, the program has raised a combined amount of almost $200,000. Past Charity of Choice partners include:

  • USO
  • Project Vida
  • AVANCE
  • The Rescue Mission of El Paso
  • Operation Santa Claus

To be considered as our next Charity of Choice partner, letters to the utility need to be submitted by January 1. Be sure to include non-profit status, whether you are localy-based or connected to a national organization and what that relationship is, specific needs you have and a discrete project where we could help you meet objectives, and why you should be our next Charity of Choice.

An employee committee selects the “Charity of Choice” partner in late January, and the Public Service Board provides approval, usually in February.

United Way

El Paso Water proudly supports United Way of El Paso County through our annual employee giving campaign that helps raise money to address the community needs, especially in the areas of education and basic necessities.

Employees raise funds and donate their time and money. Since 2010, employees have donated more than $400,000, plus countless hours to help support United Way and its initiatives.

University Partnerships

As an international leader in water innovation, we welcome the opportunity to partner with regional colleges and universities on research projects.

Following are just a few of our projects stemming from collaborations with the University of Texas at El Paso and New Mexico State University:

  • Design, building and installation of special water desalination systems for three Lower Valley well sites
  • Engineering design competition for a new “water campus” to include our proposed advanced purification facility
  • Testing of systems to more efficiently separate drinkable water from salty concentrate during the desalination process

“Some of these students will work for us one day, so we consider these projects as helping build a pipeline for technical talent,” said Alan Shubert, vice president of operations and technical services. “Even if they go to work elsewhere, the knowledge that students acquire will be put to work in other ways that benefit the community.”
