Hundreds of water experts from U.S.-Mexico Border Region convene for “Two Nations One Water” Summit
Climate change, technology innovations and collaboration among key themes
LAS CRUCES, NM - The “Two Nations One Water” U.S.-Mexico Border Water Summit will bring together water leaders from Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico to build relationships, exchange ideas and explore adaptive water strategies for managing drought. Panels will also explore desalination, water reuse and other innovative water strategies underway in border communities.
WHAT: “Two Nations One Water” U.S.-Mexico Border Water Summit
WHEN: Main conference will be Wednesday, April 24 and Thursday, April 25 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Field trip will also be offered on April 23 to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility in Alamogordo, NM.
WHERE: New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Rd, Las Cruces, NM 88011
WHO: The summit is hosted by the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute at New Mexico State University, the University of Texas at El Paso and Texas A&M University. Dozens and speakers and panelists, including:
• Rep. Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM) – opening speaker on April 24 at 8 a.m.
• U.S. Commissioner Jayne Harkins of the International Boundary and Water Commission – opening speaker on April 25 at 8:30 a.m.
• New Mexico State Engineer John D’Antonio
• Researchers from New Mexico State University, University of Texas at El Paso, Texas A&M, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Geological Survey, and more
• Municipal utility leaders from Ciudad Juarez, Tucson, El Paso, Las Cruces
Student Poster Session: NMSU students will showcase water research projects at a posters session on April 24, 2019 between 5-7 p.m., immediately following the official program.
