A Partnership between EPWater and Project Amistad

A new customer assistance program will be available beginning in 2019 for El Paso Water customers who are seniors (65+), facing a financial hardship* and at risk of being disconnected from water service, EPWater will provide a referral to Project Amistad, which manages the AguaCares program and can provide the following services: 

  • Money management counseling program— Helping customers in managing their monthly household income and expenses in an effort to avoid disconnection.
  • Payment arrangements – Acting as agent to work with EPWater to develop a payment plan for eligible customers to prevent disconnection.
  • Conservation support – Assist in the distribution of household water-efficient fixtures to help eligible customers save water and money.
  • Emergency utility payment assistance – Provide limited payment assistance based on customer eligibility and availability of funds.
  • Agency referrals – Provide referrals to other agencies or services that appear to match the needs of a given customer.

* Project Amistad will determine qualification based on whether annual household income falls below 125% of federal poverty income guidelines.

Every donation helps

Currently, the program is in its developmental stage and is in critical need of donations. Officials are asking people to remember Project Amistad on El Paso Giving Day, which is November 15. Donations to Project Amistad on this day will be directed to the AguaCares program.

To make a donation on Nov 15, please visit the El Paso Giving Day website and select Project Amistad as your designated charity. All donations received by Project Amistad as part of this event will be redirected to the AguaCares program.
